Statement of News Values and Principles

At VOD Newz, our mission is to amplify the voices, truths, and lived experiences of the global African Diaspora through ethical journalism, powerful storytelling, and conscious media. We are committed to sharing the stories of culture, family, healing, and liberation often ignored by mainstream media while standing as a trusted source of truth, reflection, and transformation. We look to document history while shaping our future, one authentic voice at a time.As a community-centered media outlet rooted in the rich legacy of Black truth-telling, VOD News is guided by a commitment to accurate, courageous, and culturally responsible journalism. We uphold the following core values:

 

1. Seek Truth and Report It
We tell the truth, no matter how complex or uncomfortable. We verify every story using primary sources and uphold the ethics of fairness, accuracy, and transparency in everything we publish.

We elevate voices from the underrepresented and exist for the sole purpose of including the full range of Black global experiences unfiltered and unapologetic.

We take context seriously. We do not distort facts for entertainment or views. We believe truth is power, and we wield it responsibly.

2. Minimize Harm
We hold space for the humanity of our subjects and audience. We cover people, not headlines.

We avoid sensationalism and highlight positive topics such as community engagement activities and special-interest pieces with deep care and cultural awareness.

We consider long-term implications, especially in stories involving justice, healing, or family legacies.

3. Act Independently
Our loyalty is to our community, not advertisers or donors. We don’t compromise truth for likes, influence, or financial gain.

We don’t accept favors or gifts in exchange for coverage. We do not blur the lines between content and commerce our subscribers will always know the difference.

4. Be Accountable and Transparent
We take ownership of our work, every mistake, every word, every edit. We correct errors quickly, and we communicate transparently with our audience about how decisions are made.

We are accountable to the people whose stories we tell and the communities we serve.

We believe journalism is a living contract of trust that we honor with integrity and clarity.
